What countertop materials does Stone City offer?

Granite, marble, limestone, quartz, onyx, travertine, slate, and one of the largest quartzite countertop selections in the Chicago Midwest. Over 2,000,000 sq ft of tile and slab inventory across 300+ varieties of domestic and imported stone — fabricated and installed in-house by our own team. 35+ years of experience.

The four materials, plain-language

Granite

Hard, heat-tolerant, near-impossible to scratch. Pattern varies dramatically between slabs — even within the same color name. Most forgiving in a working kitchen.

Best for: High-use kitchens, families with kids, anyone who wants a countertop they can forget about.

Marble

Veined, sculptural, and softer than granite. Develops patina (small etches, faint stains) over time — some clients love this, some hate it. Domestic and imported marbles across 300+ stone varieties in our inventory, including select Vermont marble through a longstanding quarry supply partnership.

Best for: Statement kitchens, bath vanities, pastry stations, clients who appreciate that a countertop tells a story.

Quartz (engineered)

Crushed natural quartz bonded with resin. Non-porous, uniform pattern, never needs sealing. Many slabs mimic marble or concrete convincingly. Heat-sensitive — don't set a hot pan directly.

Best for: Rental properties, busy households, clients who want marble look without marble care.

Quartzite

Natural stone (despite the confusing name overlap with quartz). Harder than marble, lower-maintenance, often comes in dramatic veining patterns. Pricier than granite but uniquely beautiful.

Best for: Statement kitchens that want marble drama but lower maintenance. Outdoor kitchens (well-sealed).

Countertop questions

Material is the biggest variable: exotic quartzite and rare marble cost more than domestic granite. We quote every project rather than publishing prices, based on your measurements and the slab you pick. Quote in 1 business day.
